St. Patty's Day Fun

Leprechaun traps are tradition now in the Jex household, but I strongly believe in giving the kids a few materials and letting them figure it out for themselves!  The kids were disappointed to wake up and find that our house leprechaun had evaded their traps once again, but he left Lucky Charms and some green Hershey kisses!
Little green footprints everywhere!

Character Day, P is for Pirate, and Pi Day

Pioneer Ridge Elementary has Character Day once a year, where the students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character.  Emma couldn't decide what she wanted to be, but our friend Keaton asked her to dress up with him as Jack and Annie from The Magic Treehouse book Ghost Town at Sundown.  I didn't get a picture of Keaton with Emma, but they were pretty cute!

I taught Joely's co-op preschool about the letter P, so we had a P is for Pirate day.  We dressed up like pirates, followed a treasure map to find the buried treasure (which was pirate booty that we ate for our snack, hidden in the dryer), and made our own cute pirates.  The kids seemed to have a ton of fun...I know I did!

Pi Day kind of took us by surprise.  We spent the day in Fort Collins where Dave and Carson worked with Uncle Ryan in his workshop to create Carson's pinewood derby car.  The girls and I didn't stay and play because Elli was still contagious with the chicken pox.  Even though my kids are vaccinated, we didn't want to take a chance on getting sick!  So we spent all day running around Fort Collins and realized late that we hadn't had pie yet!  On the way home we stopped at Walmart and got an apple pie, an Oreo pie, and a tiny little pecan pie.  When we got home we feasted!

Oreo Cream Pie was the definite favorite of the littles!

Carson's First Blue and Gold Banquet

Carson has been blessed with awesome scout leaders.  He was very excited for his Wild West themed Blue and Gold Banquet, and our whole family had an awesome time.  Thanks to Brother and Sister Gray, Brother and Sister Hunt, and Brother and Sister Checketts!

Making horses out of paper, clothes pins and yarn.  What a fun craft!

The stick horse races were a big hit.

Whoa, pony!

Yee-haw!

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

The Saturday after Valentine's Day turned out to be super snowy!  The kids played outside in the snow with Keaton and Macy while Dave put new shelves up in our laundry room and I supervised both and cleaned the house.  Once the kids got tired of being outside, they all came in and had lots of hot chocolate, popcorn, and apples and played to their hearts content while Tiffany and I visited.  We LOVE our neighbors!

If all the snowflakes were candy bars and milk shakes...

Finished project.  Before, we only had the bottom shelf.  Now we have way more storage and a permanent clothes rack.  Dave is amazing!

Sweet Valentines

We wanted to send all our grandparents a fun Valentine to let them know we love them.  I came up with the basic idea, and Dave made it awesome!
We had so much fun taking this picture.  Dave gave me a camera tripod for Christmas, so we did it all ourselves.  The funniest part is looking at all the shots and seeing different stages of "screaming" and being silly.  Hopefully we made a few people smile!

Joely and I were able to go to Emma's class for her Valentine's party.  We enjoyed watching the kids eat their amazing breakfast, "scrapbook" their Valentine's cards from friends, and do Just Dance Kids as a class.  Joely can't wait to go to big-kid school!
Yummy!

Keaton and Emma get to sit right next to each other!

Dance Party!
I had some fun gifts for Dave...gotta love Pinterest!

Joely Turns 4!

It's hard to believe our youngest is already 4 years old!  Where has the time gone?  Joely loves all things girly...hair, princesses, dolls, babies, dressing up...

So, when it came time to plan her fourth birthday party, I knew we needed to do something very girly.  Unfortunately, I am not all that girly and doing things like nails and hair are not my forte, so lots of the fun ideas I found weren't going to work for me.  I remembered a party my cousin's wife Krysta had given for one of her daughters.  When I looked up what she had done, I knew it would be a great fit.  Joely's party theme was "Pancakes and Pajamas for a Princess" and it was so much fun!

The invite.  Made especially for Joely by our wonderful friend Tiffany.
Luckily the party was on a Saturday, so Dave was able to be home and help me.  When it comes to breakfast, he is our family guru.  We got up early that morning and got all the decorations up.  We wanted to make it pink and purple and princessy in every way.

I made these cute frogs to put in the treat bags, since everyone knows when a princess kisses a frog he might turn into a prince!
I made a lot of frogs!  They were so cute.  And yummy too...

I decorated the cake the day before.  Unfortunately, my old Wilton cake pan for a princess isn't big enough for the Disney princesses of today.  In my panicked rush, the first thing that came to mind was to put giant marshmallows under the cake to raise it up so Rapunzel's legs would fit.  It wasn't perfect, but it worked!

All the girls had their place setting waiting for them to tell them where to sit.

Gift bags all ready for each girl to take home.

We made a backdrop using three plastic tablecloths on top of each other, knotted at the top and then hanging down to cover the window.  It didn't work quite as well as I'd hoped, but the effect was good!

Props/crafts for the party.
Making and decorating royal princess fans to cool us off.

Breakfast!  Pancakes in the shape of crowns and high heels, sausage, scrambled eggs, and fruit kabob wands.  Plus juice to drink.  Yummy!

I think the girls liked breakfast, but they were all so excited to get on with the partying nobody ate all that much.

Decorating their crowns.

All the girls needed some royal jewels, right?  (Gotta love clearance...10 cents for the whole bag of rings!)

Crowns, wands, rings, and fans...these pajama princesses are ready for princess training!  We learned how to curtsy, how to use our fans to express emotions, and how to wave (elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist, wipe a tear and blow a kiss).  I forgot to have them practice poise by walking with a book on their heads.  The wave was definitely the favorite for all of them.

We had a fun round of "Pin the Kiss on the Frog."

Princess Portraits

Beautiful Princesses.  Sadie was trying to curtsy.  Cute girl.

My favorite birthday picture of Joely this year.  So sweet!  The girls got to decorate their own princess cupcakes to enjoy before going home.

Time for presents!

It was a fantastic party!  I think Joely was pleased and the girls had a good time.  We sent everyone on their way and then still had most of our Saturday available to run errands and get things done.  It was great!

The next day (Sunday) we celebrated Joely's actual birthday with the Boggs and the McClures.  Joely requested macaroni and cheese, so we had that and giant barbecue Turkey meatballs.  Then we dove in to her Rapunzel cake.  Presents continued with fun gifts from everyone.  It was a fantastic day for Joely!

Joely had been asking for a nightgown for weeks.  Macy gave her one and she was so excited.  She literally squealed when she put it on for the first time!

Mac and Cheese for all!

Four Years Old!

Happy, happy birthday to our funny, happy, sweet, and silly fashionista!
